In M.C. Mehta v. Union of India
Writ Petition (Civil) No. 860 of 1991 case, the judgement said that it is compulsory for all Cinema halls, TV channels, Radio, Digital platforms to showcase environment awareness programs to awaken the citizens on protection of the planet.
It also made environment education compulsory in all schools and colleges as a key part of the syllabus. As a result of this education, teachers & students will be sensitised to protect the environment viz. rivers, lakes, groundwater, water bodies, forests etc and also be compassionate towards animals.
This judgment has been enforced half-heartedly. So, in order to draw attention towards the urgency of environment protection, we will be conducting short and long duration environment awareness programmes.
