Mr. M.C. Mehta travelled around different parts of India on speaking assignments to raise awareness about the plight of the Ganga and Himalayas, as well as other campaigns.

Letter to the Indian Government

We asked the public to write a letter to the then Honorable Prime Minister, Sri. Manmohan Singh Ji, to protest against the proposed extensive damming in the upper reaches of the Ganga and the untreated flow of pollutants which are released into it downstream. We encouraged people to write a personal letter to the PM while also giving them the option of using our template for the same.

Kumbh Mela Ganga Campaign

MCMEF, in association with the Indian Council for Enviro-Legal Action, campaigned extensively to spread grassroots awareness about conserving the Ganga and Himalayas. A camp was been set up at Haridwar, where the Kumbh Mela was taking place, which was being used as a base for organizing workshops, talks, and awareness-raising on these issues.

We collected over one million signatures to pressurize the government to take immediate and effective measures to protect the Himalayas and the Ganga from the onslaught of damming and other destructive development projects taking place in this eco-fragile region.
